Can my dog take part?

They could join if they...

  • Yes: Are generally healthy
  • Yes: Are aged between 2 and 10 years old
  • Yes: Are due a routine vet appointment (like an annual health check or booster vaccination) between now and December 2026

They can't join if they...

  • No: Have a chronic illness
  • No: Take long-term medication (parasite preventatives and everyday supplements are fine)

Step 1: Sign up and apply

Create your Joii Studies Web App account and a profile for your dog, then apply to the QoL Dog Study once you're in. There's nothing to download: it works in your phone's web browser.

Step 2: Agree to the T&Cs

You'll receive a prompt to agree to the terms and conditions for the QoL Dog Study in the Joii Studies Web App. When you log in, complete it using the 'Quick start' button under the QoL Dog Study.

Step 3: Medical history review

If your application looks suitable, we'll take a little time to review your dog's medical history and email you the outcome. If everything looks good, you'll be prompted to book an online call with one of our vets. Log into the Joii Studies Web App and go to 'Next step'. You can keep track of all your outstanding and upcoming steps there.

Step 4: Your onboarding call

Your onboarding call takes place in the Joii Studies Web App, where a vet will run you through the study and answer any questions. Please log in a few minutes early, and you'll see a 'Join call' button that connects you to one of our vets. If something comes up, see "Can I change or cancel?" in the FAQs below.

Step 5: Quality of Life Assessment

Please don't download the ART App until we email you your study code. We'll send it no sooner than 6 days before your in-person appointment. Once you've signed up with the code, tap 'Start assessment' and complete a short questionnaire about your dog. The results are sent to your vet, so you're then all set for your appointment.

Step 6: Your in-person consultation

Attend your routine appointment with your vet as planned. Your vet has been briefed and will complete a questionnaire of their own, while also covering the reason for your visit. Missing the appointment means your involvement in the study unfortunately won't count. Afterwards, confirm your attendance in the ART App by adding a check-in.

Step 7: Feedback and reward

Once we've checked your consultation was completed, we'll email you a link to a short feedback questionnaire in the Joii Studies Web App. Please allow a few days for this. After you've completed it, please allow 7 working days for us to process and email your £50 Amazon voucher.

FAQs

What is the Joii Studies Web App?

Created by UK vet-tech company Vet-AI, the Joii Studies Web App is where your study journey begins. You'll see your outstanding actions there and be prompted whenever you need to come back to it. There's nothing to download: it works in your phone's web browser, and you'll be prompted to save the link to your phone for quick access. Access it anytime here.

What is the Animal Research Tool (ART) App?

The ART App hosts VetMetrica™, the Quality of Life tool used in the study. You'll use it to complete a short Quality of Life Assessment before your in-person consultation. Unlike Joii Studies, it needs to be downloaded from the App Store, but please don't download it until we tell you it's time. You'll need a study code to access it, which we'll email you. Don't worry, we know when your in-person appointment is.

How do I get in touch?

If this hub doesn't answer your question, log into the Joii Studies Web App and use the 'Report an issue' button within the Quality of Life Dog Study, which appears under 'Ongoing'. We'll come back to you as soon as possible.

Can I change or cancel my appointments?

For this study, it's important that we keep to your original timings, as this is a key part of how we collect data. But we understand that life happens! Click on the QoL Dog Study in the Joii Studies Web App and use 'Report an issue' to get in touch with our team. We'll come back to you as soon as possible.

What if there's a technical issue with my call?

If there was a technical issue with your study call, you'll receive an email inviting you to rebook.
