Elanco Atopica Solution for Dogs and Cats is a ciclosporin oral solution that calms the overactive immune response behind allergic skin disease, without the need for steroids. By damping down the inflammatory signals that drive itching, it helps break the itch-scratch cycle so the skin can settle and heal, offering long-term control of a chronic condition rather than short-term relief. The liquid comes with a dosing syringe, so the dose can be measured accurately to your pet's weight.
In dogs it is used to treat the chronic manifestations of atopic dermatitis. In cats it is used for the symptomatic treatment of chronic allergic dermatitis, including signs such as excoriations, miliary dermatitis, eosinophilic plaques and self-inflicted hair loss. It is suitable for dogs over 2 kg and at least six months of age, and for cats over 2.3 kg. Dogs should be dosed at least two hours before or after a meal, while for cats the solution can be given directly into the mouth or mixed into food.
Not recommended for pets with a history or suspicion of malignant disorders, or with a known hypersensitivity to ciclosporin, and not for use in cats infected with feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) or feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Live vaccines should not be given during treatment or within two weeks either side, and Atopica should not be used alongside other immunosuppressive agents. Atopica is a POM-V medicine and requires a prescription from your vet.
